My Holland ID Class
By Shelby McSwiggin

In my ID class I learned about the Holland Project of Reno, co-created by Joe Ferguson who teaches the course. I had been involved with Holland before but thanks to this class I’ve been doing more than ever!

I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the American Hardcore scene, I didn’t realize how important being an independent thinker meant to the punk scene and how world known the music is. Going on a field trip to the east bay was really awesome I’ve never stayed in a hostel that was a great experience. Seeing a show with teachers was something I’ve never done before either.

I didn’t actually have a least favorite topic, I found the class to not be as challenging as it was engaging. I wanted to participate in every activity.

If I could take the class again I would like to learn more about music history like the rave scene, hip hop scene, and American folk music. I would defiantly take this class again if I could because the atmosphere is relaxing I can get work done and socialize simultaneously.

Getting to Know Holland

The Holland Project is a non profit org focused on the talents and hard work of the commuinty's youth. Holland is locally stationed and opertated purely by voluneteer efforts and private donations. They set up all ages shows for local bands in small venues as well as put on art/craft music or tech workshops for free in various hosting facilities around the city of Reno. The common belief is that a community can be as beatutiful as we call make it to be.
